A World of Stories

Read a Story. Imagine It. Bring It to Life Through Art.

A free national illustration program for kids ages 6–17 across the United States. Explore folk tales and legends from six continents, choose a story you love, and illustrate it. Your work will become part of a national virtual exhibition and a printed catalog, and selected illustrations may be included in an illustrated book featuring the stories.

Free · Ages 6–17 · For children living in the U.S. · Not a contest

Europe: submit by December 31, 2026

How It Works

1

Choose a Continent

Six exhibitions in 2027 — one for each continent.

2

Read a Story

Every folk tale and legend is free to read right on the page.

3

Create Your Illustration

Draw or paint your favorite moment of the story by hand.

4

Submit Your Artwork

A parent or guardian uploads a photo of the artwork.

Six Continents, Six Exhibitions

Each exhibition opens on the first day of its month and stays open all month in our virtual gallery. You can submit artwork for any continent as soon as its stories are published.

What Happens to Your Child’s Artwork

  • It is shown in an online gallery on our website — and stays there.
  • It joins a national virtual exhibition for one month.
  • It appears in a digital exhibition catalog you can download — and, with your permission, in a printed catalog.
  • Every accepted participant receives a personalized Certificate of Participation.
  • With your permission, it may be selected for an illustrated book of the stories.

Not a Contest

There are no rankings and no winners. For each continent, the first 500 eligible submissions are accepted, in the order they are received. Every child who follows the rules is part of the exhibition.

Story Passport 2027

Collect a stamp from every continent

Each time your child takes part in an exhibition, they receive a Certificate of Participation with that continent’s stamp. Collect them all and become a World Storyteller.
